Freelance Project Manager – Civils Works (Major UK DNO Framework)
Location: Wakefield / Yorkshire (Site-Based & Hybrid Working Available)
Engagement: Long-Term and Short-Term Contracts Available
Client: Major UK Distribution Network Operator (DNO)
The OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced Freelance Project Manager to lead delivery of civils works for a major UK DNO. Projects include foundations, access roads, drainage, and earthworks for substations and other network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Lead planning, coordination, and delivery of civils projects on site.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure successful delivery.
- Oversee subcontractor performance, compliance, and health & safety.
- Act as the client’s main point of contact on-site, providing updates and reports.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
- Monitor project budgets and track expenditure against forecasts.
- Support the commercial/QS team with valuations and change management.
- Identify risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation strategies.
- Produce progress reports for senior stakeholders and client representatives.
- Liaise with engineers, surveyors, and planners to align operational and commercial objectives.
- Maintain strong communication with subcontractors, clients, and internal teams.
- Attend site meetings and project reviews, representing the delivery team professionally.
Essential: Proven project management experience on civils works (foundations, access roads, drainage, earthworks), strong site management and budget control skills.
Desirable: NEC contract knowledge, DNO or regulated utility experience, professional project management accreditation (e.g., PMP, RICS, CIOB).
