This business delivers various civil engineering works with multi-million £ values - including roads & sewers, drainage, groundworks, foundations, earthworks, concrete structures and more. They're strengthening the HSE function due to continued growth. The successful candidate will join an established team and take responsibility for driving safety, environmental compliance and positive culture across live sites and office operations.
They offer a consistent regional workload, established internal systems (including ISO 45001 & ISO 14001) and genuine investment in training and development for staff.
Please note:
The role will be split between office, site and home working. It will be the responsibility of the successful HSE Manager to plan their own diary to fulfil their role.
Duties:
* Promote and embed a positive safety culture across all levels of the organisation.
* Provide competent H&S advice to directors, managers, supervisors and site teams.
* Conduct regular site inspections and audits to monitor compliance with legislation, company procedures and client requirements.
* Support operational teams with safe planning and execution of construction works.
* Produce and review Construction Phase Plans, RAMS and site‑specific inductions.
* Lead incident investigations, complete reports, identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
* Support development and implementation of HSE management systems.
* Identify training needs and support ongoing workforce development.
Experience
Required:
* Proven experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental role within the construction industry.
* Strong working knowledge of UK H&S and environmental legislation (including CDM).
* Experience conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations.
* Experience developing or implementing HSE management systems.
* Strong communication, engagement and report‑writing skills.
* Ability to work across multiple sites and liaise effectively with clients and contractors.
Qualifications
Required:
Necessary:
* NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level
6) or NEBOSH Certificate
* Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
* Environmental qualification (IEMA/ISEP)
* IOSH membership at Chartered level (or working towards)
* Lead Auditor qualification
* Incident Investigation qualification
* Mental Health First Aid
Pay
Salary up to £55,000 + company vehicle / car allowance + 5% matched pension + cash health & wellbeing package + life assurance + training & development opportunities.
