Specialist Doctor in Community Paediatrics

Our Community Paediatric team is made up of a wide range of enthusiastic and passionate individuals, including 5 consultants, 5 Specialty and Specialist (SAS) doctors and a diverse team of nursing staff. The clinical team is supported by a dedicated secretariat team with office and networked computer facilities. We are a busy centre serving a large diverse population. Our community paediatric services are delivered across two hospital sites (Pinderfields General Hospital in Wakefield and Pontefract General Infirmary in Pontefract), which form The Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals Trust.

The service also runs clinics within special schools and medical centres in the geographical area. Our vision is to deliver patient-centred, accessible and integrated services as seamlessly as possible with primary care. The dedicated team at Mid-Yorks sees around 4,500 patients through our outpatient departments. Our Trust has modern, spacious, state-of-the-art clinical, diagnostic and teaching facilities.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the post include:

  • General Community Paediatric Clinics, Neurodisability, Bladder and Bowel Management Clinics.
  • Initial Health Assessments (IHA) for Looked After Children, with scope to contribute to adoption work and Pre-Adoption Medicals (PAM) as the service develops.
  • ADHD assessment (with potential involvement in triage pathways).
  • Close multidisciplinary working with education, therapy services, CAMHS, local authority teams and palliative care providers.
  • Opportunities to contribute to clinical and educational supervision (following appropriate training).
  • Administrative duties, with appropriate office accommodation and secretarial support provided.
  • Promoting a strong multidisciplinary team approach across community paediatrics and partner agencies.
