About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and innovative Specialist Grade in Emergency & Urgent Care (equivalent to General Practitioner with Specialist interest in Emergency & Urgent Care) to work in the Emergency and Urgent Integrated Care Departments at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. This role may suit an experienced General Practitioner looking for a new challenge.
Job Responsibilities- Working alongside other members of the Emergency Medicine multi-disciplinary team to deliver high quality healthcare in the Emergency and Urgent Integrated Care Departments across both our Pinderfields and Dewsbury sites.
- An interface role between primary care and secondary care looking at how we can support getting patients to the right service in a timely fashion.
- Developing clinical pathways which span the primary care/secondary care interface.
- Contributing to clinical governance and quality improvement within urgent and emergency care.
- Contributing to the ongoing education of the multidisciplinary team in urgent and emergency care.
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in assessment, diagnosis and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department and Urgent Integrated Care Stream.
- Development of services and pathways across the primary and secondary care interface between ED, UIC, and acute medicine.
- Provide senior support, leadership and formal clinical supervision to medical trainees and advanced clinical practitioners (ACPs).
To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

- Demonstrates the underpinning subject‑specific competences (knowledge, skills and behaviors relevant to the role setting and scope).
- Clinically evaluates and manages a patient, formulates a prioritized differential diagnosis, initiates an appropriate management plan, and reviews and adjusts this depending on treatment outcomes.
- Manages complexity and uncertainty in care, employing expertise and clinical decision‑making skills of a senior and independent autonomous practitioner.
- Critically reflects on own competence, understands limits, and seeks help when required.
- Communicates effectively and shares decision‑making with patients, relatives, and carers, treating patients as individuals and promoting a person‑centred approach to their care.
- Respects patients' dignity, ensures confidentiality, and communicates appropriately where barriers exist (e.g., interpreters).
- Demonstrates key generic clinical skills around the areas of concern, ensuring humane interventions, prescribing medicine safely, and using medical devices safely.
- Adheres to professional requirements, participating in annual appraisal, job planning, and reviews of performance and progression.
- Awareness of legal responsibilities relevant to the role, such as mental capacity, deprivation of liberty, data protection, equality and diversity.
- Applies basic principles of public health, including population health, promoting health and wellbeing, nutrition, exercise, vaccination and illness prevention.
- MBBS or equivalent.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice (Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council or eligibility before commencement).
- Previous experience working independently within an NHS emergency, urgent or acute care setting.
- Experience working effectively in a busy, high‑pressure clinical environment.
- Minimum of 12 years full‑time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained part‑time or LTFOT) since obtaining a primary medical qualification.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the Specialty Doctor/SAS Grade or equivalent in Emergency Medicine or a similar specialty.
