Position: Senior Specialist Learning Support Officer x 2

Overview

We are seeking to recruit additional staff to join our established team of support professionals. This role involves providing cover across our specialist settings, stepping in during staff absences to ensure continuity of learning and high-quality support for pupils with additional needs.

Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing classes to provide release or absence cover for teachers and support staff. You will maintain a positive and purposeful learning environment and follow pre-prepared lesson plans, or plan effectively for the classroom where required, to support pupils in meeting their learning objectives.
Where you will work

Our teams work across a number of schools in Wakefield, supporting the inclusion and integration of pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). You will work under the direction of a Teacher in Charge and alongside other key staff to meet individual pupil needs, ensure access to learning, and deliver the provision outlined in their EHCPs.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience or knowledge of supporting pupils with needs related to ASD, Communication and Interaction, or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH).
  • Experience working with children in education or in roles that build an understanding of supporting learning and development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to use initiative in varied situations.
  • An understanding of the importance of education and the need to support pupils to access the curriculum fully.
  • Awareness of how reasonable adjustments can improve accessibility and engagement for learners.
Employment details

The post is permanent, working during Wakefield Council term time dates, 35hrs per week.
