Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting both teaching staff and pupils. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing well-organised, engaging classroom environments
- Listening to children read and supporting literacy development
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils who need additional help
- Assisting teachers with planning, assessment, and day-to-day teaching tasks
- Promoting positive behaviour and creating a calm, encouraging atmosphere
- Supervising group work and encouraging teamwork and communication
- Offering comfort and care to children who may feel unwell or upset
- Ensuring learning spaces are tidy, safe, and ready for use
- Supporting school trips, outdoor learning, and enrichment activities
- Completing essential administrative tasks to support school operations
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- A Level 2 qualification (or above) in Childcare or Supporting Teaching and Learning
- Strong knowledge of the KS1 and/or KS2 curriculum
- Previous experience working with primary-aged children
- Confidence in supporting positive behaviour management
- A commitment to delivering engaging, high-quality learning experiences
- Excellent organisation skills and an eye for detail
- A positive, flexible approach and genuine passion for working with children
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Adaptable and happy to support a variety of classes and age groups
- Calm, confident, and able to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
- Creative, imaginative, and full of ideas to enhance learning
- Experienced in supporting children's academic, social, or emotional development
- Holding a current DBS on the Update Service (or willing to obtain one)
