Some students just need the right space, and the right person, to thrive.

We’re working with a secondary school in Wakefield to find a confident and compassionate Nurture Room Leader to take the lead in a dedicated support space from September. This is a full-time role where you’ll shape a calm, consistent environment for students who need a different approach to succeed.

You’ll be leading the nurture provision within the school, supporting students who may be struggling with behaviour, emotional regulation, or engagement in mainstream lessons. Your focus will be on building trust, restoring confidence, and helping students re-engage with learning at a pace that works for them.

This is a role with real autonomy and impact, you’ll set the tone, routines, and expectations within the nurture space.

• Leading and managing the day‑to‑day running of the nurture room
• Supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis
• Implementing behaviour and emotional support strategies
• Working closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
• Tracking progress, both academically and emotionally
• Creating a safe, structured, and supportive environment

This role suits someone experienced, steady, and genuinely passionate about supporting young people who need a different approach.

You’ll ideally have:

• Strong experience working with secondary‑aged students
• A background in SEN, behaviour support, or pastoral care
• Experience working with students with SEMH needs
• Confidence managing challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent way
• An understanding of trauma‑informed or nurture‑based approaches

You’re calm under pressure and don’t take things personally. You understand that behaviour tells a story, and you’re patient enough to listen.

• Naturally authoritative, but always kind
• Consistent and fair, someone students learn to trust quickly
• Resilient, able to reset and go again, even on tough days
• A strong relationship‑builder, with both students and staff

You’ll be the steady presence students rely on, the one who helps them feel safe enough to try again.

This isn’t just about managing behaviour. It’s about changing trajectories. The nurture room can be the difference between a student disengaging completely or finding their way back into school life.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
