If so, Randstad Education wants to hear from you. We are currently recruiting a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant for a fantastic specialist Post-16 site in the Wakefield area. Starting in September 2026, this full-time temporary role is perfect for someone who wants to help young adults with special educational needs navigate their next steps on a flexible, day-to-day ad-hoc supply basis.

Position: SEND Teaching Assistant (Post-16 Provision)

Location: Wakefield Area

Pay Rate: £98 - £140 per day (depending on experience)

Contract Type: Full-time (Monday to Friday, Term-time only)

Start Date: September 2026

Nature of Role: Day-to-day ad-hoc supply / Temporary

Skills Required
  • Patience & Empathy: A calm, reassuring presence and a genuine understanding of the unique educational, emotional, and social barriers young adults with SEND face.

  • Adaptability: A flexible mindset and the ability to think on your feet, adapting quickly to different classroom setups, workshops, or community-based learning sessions.

  • Communication Support: Strong interpersonal skills to connect with students using visual tools, simplified prompts, or alternative communication methods.

  • Resilience & Mentorship: The ability to remain professional and positive during challenging situations, acting as an inspiring role model for young people preparing for the future.

Job Responsibilities
  • Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support to young adults with complex learning, physical, or communication needs.

  • Assisting the tutor in delivering a life-skills and vocational curriculum, ensuring a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

  • Helping students develop their social skills, emotional regulation, and independence during practical tasks, travel training, or life-skills sessions.

  • Monitoring, tracking, and recording student progress, boosting their self-esteem, and strictly adhering to all safeguarding protocols.

Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young adults with SEND, or within a care/support work setting in the UK.

  • Full eligibility to work in the UK (please note: visa sponsorship is not available for this role).

  • An enhanced DBS check on the update service, or a total willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad.

  • A compassionate, non-judgemental approach and a genuine desire to act as a positive mentor.
