Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Wakefield & Surrounding Areas

Academic Appointments is currently recruiting experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to support a range of primary schools across Wakefield and the surrounding areas. With immediate starts available, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference while enjoying the flexibility that supply work offers.

Your Role in the Classroom

Every day will be different, but your impact will always be the same. You'll:

  • Deliver and support engaging learning, including leading lessons when required.
  • Support pupils' academic progress as well as their personal and emotional development.
  • Quickly build positive, professional relationships across the school community.
  • Confidently use your literacy and numeracy skills to support learning.
  • Promote positive behaviour and help create a focused, supportive classroom environment.
  • Adapt to new schools and routines with confidence and professionalism.
  • Set high expectations and encourage pupils to achieve their best.
  • Bring enthusiasm, creativity, and positivity into every classroom you enter.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching teams to support strong outcomes for pupils.
What We're Looking For
  • A recognised qualification that enables you to work as a Higher‑Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA).
  • Recent experience supporting teaching and learning within UK primary schools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A nurturing, child‑centred approach and a genuine passion for helping children succeed.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents, and the wider school community.
  • A flexible, reliable, and proactive approach to work.
  • Two professional references, including your most recent employer.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
