Salary: £460 - £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you confident leading a classroom and ready to inspire students in a rewarding school-based role? A welcoming secondary school in Wakefield is seeking a reliable and motivated Cover Supervisor to join their team.

About the Role

GSL Education South Yorkshire is seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor to work in a supportive secondary school in Wakefield. In this role, you will supervise lessons in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring students remain engaged with their learning while maintaining a positive and orderly classroom environment.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise whole classes during teacher absences, following the work provided.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively and maintain a purposeful learning environment.
  • Encourage students to remain focused and engaged throughout lessons.
  • Provide guidance and support where appropriate without delivering new lesson content.
  • Report any concerns or incidents to teaching and pastoral staff.
  • Uphold school policies and procedures at all times.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • A confident, calm and adaptable approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Experience in a school setting is advantageous.
Candidate Eligibility
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.
  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection; must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or completing an application for a new check.
