About the Role- To support the learners in our settings to access the curriculum and be included in the school community
- To assist with the personal needs of pupils including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters.
- Co‑ordinate the physical environment appropriate to the needs of each learner and to facilitate its use.
- To prepare the classroom for lessons and to clear afterwards.
- To assist with the display of work.
- To report to the teacher or line manager any pupil problems or behavioural difficulties in accordance with school policy.
- To report to the teacher or line manager on pupil progress and achievements in accordance with school policy.
- To provide or gather routine information to or from parents/carers under the direction of the teacher or line manager.
- To provide specialist support with learning activities to enable pupils to understand instructions and to ensure they remain on task.
- Adapts, modifies, and reformats standard learning resources and differentiated into other specialist media appropriate to pupils’ low incidence needs to facilitate full curriculum inclusion.
- Provide advice and support on the use of behaviour management systems including systems to keep pupils and staff safe.
- Demonstrate and use a broad range of knowledge, skills, and strategies to support pupils with ASD/ SLCN/PD/MD/VI/MSI/DHI/ as appropriate to setting.
- Liaise with SALT/Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist/Audiologist/Habilitation Specialist and other professionals as appropriate to implement, model or advise on specific programmes which are relevant to pupils needs.
- To assist with the supervision of pupils outside of lesson times, including before and after school and se duties shall be undertaken within the postholder’s contractual hours.
- To liaise between the pupil, teacher, and peer group to facilitate successful inclusion.
- To undertake note‑taking duties where appropriate.
- To support the child to ensure appropriate access to school outings and trips.
- Supports the development of self‑esteem and the development of the identity of the child or young person.
- Make use of technological aids and Information and Communications Technology in meeting the special educational needs of ASD/SLCN/PD/MD/VI/MSI/DHI children and young people as appropriate to the setting/caseload.
- To support after school and extended school activities where appropriate under the direction of the Teacher in Charge/Senior Specialist Learning Support Officer.
- Attends and delivers staff meetings and professional development courses as required.
- Contributes to pupil assessment and reviews as well as providing information regarding the evaluation of specialist support programmes relevant to the pupil.
- Deliver appropriately differentiated curriculum and resources for pupils with SEN, considering national developments in curriculum and assessment.
- Deliver appropriate personalised support for each pupil considering the effect of complex needs upon all aspects of their development. This may include individual teaching or group interventions.
- Where necessary if planned activities do not meet pupil needs, uses specialist skills and knowledge to provide immediate differentiation according to individual need.
