As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will make a real difference to the lives of children with special educational needs and disabilities by providing personalised one-to-one and small-group support. Your guidance and encouragement will help pupils build confidence, overcome barriers to learning, and reach their full potential both academically and personally.
A successful candidate would:- Have previous experience working within a range of educational environments, including mainstream schools, specialist settings, or alternative provisions.
- Be experienced in supporting children and young people with a variety of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with behavioural, communication, and additional learning needs.
- Be a compassionate, patient, and approachable individual who can develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Display resilience, adaptability, and a positive attitude, with the ability to respond proactively to the individual needs of pupils and support their ongoing learning and personal development.
Working in this setting requires patience, empathy, and adaptability, as pupils may have a range of additional needs requiring personalised support throughout the school day.
You will:- Provide consistent encouragement and positive reinforcement to promote confidence, independence, and engagement in learning.
- Support pupils with their academic, social, emotional, and communication development.
- Use positive behaviour management strategies to encourage appropriate behaviours and create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
- Work closely with teachers and other professionals to implement individual support plans and meet pupils' specific needs.
