GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking a calm and committed Behaviour Support Worker (BSW) to work with a school in Wakefield (WF1). The successful candidate will provide practical and emotional support to pupils who may need additional guidance with behaviour, relationships, engagement and their wider school experience.

As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will:
  • Provide individualised support to pupils experiencing behavioural or emotional difficulties.
  • Build trusting and positive relationships with students.
  • Encourage pupils to recognise and manage their emotions appropriately.
  • Support students in developing positive behaviours and coping strategies.
  • Help students re-engage with classroom learning and school routines.
  • Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to support individual behaviour plans.
  • Record relevant observations and communicate concerns appropriately.
Requirements for the Behaviour Support Worker role:
  • Experience regarding supporting children or young people with behavioural needs is encouraged.
  • Experience in education, youth work, pastoral care or a similar setting would be beneficial.
  • Patient, empathetic and non-judgemental approach.
  • Confidence when responding to challenging behaviour.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills is must for aBehaviour Support Worker.
  • Ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
