Location: Wakefield WF1
Pay: £110-£120 per day
Hours: 8:00am - 3:30pm
Contract: Long-term supply, with the opportunity to become permanent

We are looking for a Pastoral Worker to join a welcoming school in the Wakefield area, supporting pupils with their wellbeing, personal development and engagement in school.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning. You will work closely with pupils, teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to provide guidance, encouragement and practical support throughout the school day.

• Build positive, trusting and supportive relationships with pupils.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group pastoral support where required.
• Support pupils with their emotional wellbeing, confidence and personal development.
• Help pupils overcome barriers that may affect their attendance, behaviour or engagement with learning.
• Support pupils who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.
• Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to identify and respond to pupils' individual needs.
• Encourage positive behaviour, attendance and engagement across the school.
• Support pupils during lessons, break times, lunchtimes and other areas of the school day where required.
• Help de-escalate challenging situations and provide appropriate support to pupils.
• Maintain a calm, consistent and positive approach when working with young people.
• Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment.
• Provide feedback to relevant staff regarding pupils' progress, behaviour and wellbeing.

We are looking for someone who is patient, approachable, resilient and passionate about supporting young people
.

Previous experience working in a school or with children and young people is desirable. We would also consider candidates with experience in youth work, mentoring, counselling, residential care, sports coaching, support work or similar settings.

Most importantly, you will:

• Build positive relationships with young people based on trust and respect.
• Communicate effectively with pupils, staff and parents/carers where appropriate.
• Remain calm, patient and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
• Have a genuine interest in supporting pupils' wellbeing and personal development.
• Be confident setting clear and consistent boundaries.
• Work effectively as part of a wider pastoral and school team.
• Be adaptable and able to respond to the individual needs of pupils.
• Be committed to helping young people overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
