Senior / Principal Structural Engineer – Wakefield
There are plenty of consultancies talking about “exciting growth” right now. Very few can genuinely back it up with the kind of project variety, technical freedom and trust this business gives its engineers. This is an opportunity to join a genuinely different multidisciplinary consultancy where Structural Engineers are not boxed into one narrow specialism. The team takes a holistic approach to engineering, meaning you will be involved across both structural and civil elements of schemes, working closely with colleagues throughout the full development lifecycle rather than being isolated in a siloed design role.
The business has built a strong reputation across commercial, industrial, leisure and complex development projects, delivering everything from early feasibility and site acquisition advice through to detailed design, enabling works, drainage strategies, infrastructure and construction support. Their engineers are heavily involved from day one and are encouraged to take ownership, challenge ideas and contribute commercially as well as technically.
Key Responsibilities- Lead projects, mentor junior engineers and technicians, and liaise directly with clients, architects and contractors.
- Drive projects from concept through to completion, ensuring practical, buildable solutions.
- Work closely with a broad range of schemes including steel, concrete, masonry and foundation design while appreciating civils, drainage, levels, earthworks and wider infrastructure considerations.
- Contribute commercially by solving problems rather than just producing calculations behind a screen.
- Senior or Principal Structural Engineer with experience in design‑and‑build environments.
- Strong knowledge of structural design for steel, concrete, masonry and foundations.
- Understanding of civils, drainage, levels, earthworks and infrastructure.
- Experience or familiarity with software such as Tekla Structural Designer, Master Series or drainage packages.
- Commercially aware and interested in solving problems across the full development lifecycle.
- Large project variety across commercial, industrial, leisure and complex developments.
- Early responsibility, strong mentoring and long‑term support.
- Investment in training and development, flexible working and enhanced benefits.
- Free parking at the office and a collaborative, low‑ego culture with a strong social side.
