Mechanically Biased Maintenance Engineer

Location:

Wakefield

Salary: £40,000 – £43,500 per annum

Hours:

Monday to Thursday 7:00am – 4:00pm | Friday 7:00am – 1:00pm

Contract:

Permanent | Full Time

The Opportunity

10 Recruitment are currently supporting a well‑established manufacturing business in the Wakefield area who are looking to recruit an experienced Mechanically Biased Maintenance Engineer to join their engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a time‑served engineer who enjoys a hands‑on mechanical maintenance role within a traditional manufacturing environment.

The position offers the chance to work on a wide range of heavy mechanical equipment, carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance to ensure maximum reliability and minimise downtime.

The Role
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across site machinery and equipment
  • Responding to mechanical breakdowns and carrying out effective repairs
  • Fault finding and diagnosing issues on heavy manufacturing equipment
  • Maintaining and repairing a variety of machinery including:
    • Lathes
    • Milling machines
    • Presses
    • Workshop machinery
    • Gearboxes
    • Bearings
    • Shafts and drive systems
  • Working on hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Supporting electrical fault finding, including motors, drives and control panels
  • Assisting with continuous improvement projects and engineering improvements
  • Ensuring all maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently
The Candidate
  • Previous experience working as a Maintenance Engineer within a heavy manufacturing, engineering or workshop environment
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and repair skills
  • Experience maintaining traditional machinery such as lathes, presses, mills or similar equipment
  • A mechanical engineering apprenticeship or time‑served background
  • Good understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical systems
  • Ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs independently
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and improving equipment reliability

Electrical skills would be advantageous, particularly experience with basic fault finding on motors, drives and control systems.

Package & Benefits
