Head of Grid

The energy transition needs people who can figure things out.

At Aegis Energy, we are accelerating the decarbonisation of commercial transport in the UK. Our mission is to develop a network of over 50 clean energy hubs, supporting the needs of commercial fleets with low/zero-emission energies including electric charging, HVO, bio-CNG, and Hydrogen. We focus on meeting the demands of the commercial vehicle sector.

Transport accounts for 27% of CO2 emissions in the UK. Commercial vehicles (CVs) produce 38% of this, with heavy and light goods vehicles (HGVs, LGVs) accounting for 20% and 18% respectively. Aegis will play a significant role in the UK’s energy transition by providing essential clean energy infrastructure at purpose‑built, public hubs to CV fleets across the UK.

About the Role:

Aegis Energy is one of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure providers for the energy transition. We identify, design, build, and operate commercial transport charging and HVO refuelling stations to accelerate the transition of British haulage and logistics to clean power. Transport accounts for around 27% of UK CO2 emissions and commercial vehicles produce roughly 38% of that, so the sector this role sits in carries more decarbonisation potential than almost any other in the economy.

We expect to have three sites commissioned and a mature pipeline of 20 to 25 by the end of 2028.

Every hub we build needs a connection to the electricity network, and securing that connection determines whether a site gets built and when. This is a junior (or entry‑level) technical role in the grid and electrical function, reporting directly to our Head of Grid, one of the country's most experienced strategic and technical specialists in grid connections and High Voltage (HV) electrical system design.

You will work with them daily on live applications across the entire portfolio, rather than on a single site. Grid connections are learned by sitting next to someone who has done it, and there are very few people in the UK better placed to teach it.

Alongside the grid work you will support the design team, in‑house and outsourced engineering design consultants on low voltage (LV) single line electrical design. You will be involved from feasibility and concept design through to construction design quality assurance. We operate a stage‑gated site development process aligned to the RIBA Plan of Work, with one named, accountable development lead per site and specialists co‑signing what carries real risk;

your work feeds that process.

Some examples of initiatives that you’ll be working on:
  • Prepare, submit and track connection applications across the portfolio, working closely with the Head of Grid and development team.
  • Run early network capacity checks on new sites and summarise what they mean for develop ability.
  • Review connection offers against what we applied for: charges, capacity, milestone dates, liabilities and conditions, and flag risks and potential issues.
  • Support and track day‑to‑day coordination with distribution network operators (DNOs), independent connection providers (ICPs), independent distribution network operators (IDNOs) and specialist consultants.
  • Maintain the portfolio grid milestone register so the grid position on every site is current and visible.
  • Produce and maintain single line diagrams for each site under supervision from the design team, and support feasibility and concept electrical design.
  • Review electrical design from external consultants and contractors against our requirements and the relevant standards and track comments to closure.
  • Support the electrical elements of wider site and building services design.
  • Get out to site through construction and energisation to ensure the drawings match the as‑built assets.
  • Maintain the function's trackers and prepare the grid input for portfolio reporting.
  • Use AI and automation tools to take the repetition out of application preparation, reporting and design…
