Help support a thriving community hub. Horbury Community Centre Trust is seeking a Treasurer Trustee to provide financial oversight for The Cluntergate Centre, home to community groups, theatre and the Horbury District Men’s Shed. Use your finance skills to make a real local impact.
What difference will you make?
The Treasurer will play a vital role in helping Horbury Community Centre Trust remain financially strong and sustainable, ensuring that The Cluntergate Centre can continue to serve the local community.
The Centre is a busy and welcoming community hub used by hundreds of people each week. It provides space for a wide range of activities including community groups, theatre productions, local events and the growing Horbury Men’s Shed project, which supports wellbeing and social connection. The Centre also provides affordable space for local organisations and individuals to meet, learn new skills and take part in community life.
Strong financial oversight is essential for a community charity like ours. Income is generated through a mix of room hire, events and grant funding, and careful financial planning helps ensure that the organisation remains sustainable while keeping activities accessible and affordable for local people.
By joining the board as Treasurer, the new trustee will help ensure that the charity continues to manage its finances responsibly and plan confidently for the future. Their work will help the trustees make informed decisions about how resources are used, how new initiatives can be developed and how the Centre can continue to grow and respond to the needs of the community.
The Treasurer will also play an important role in helping the charity maintain the strong financial governance required by funders and regulators. This supports the organisation’s ability to secure grant funding and invest in improvements to the Centre and its programmes.
Ultimately, the Treasurer’s contribution helps ensure that The Cluntergate Centre remains a vibrant, welcoming and sustainable community space. By supporting the board in maintaining financial stability and planning for the future, the role helps protect and strengthen a resource that brings people together, supports wellbeing and provides opportunities for connection, creativity and participation within the local community.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with experience in finance, accountancy, bookkeeping or financial management who would enjoy supporting a local community charity as Treasurer.
The ideal candidate will feel comfortable reviewing financial information and helping the board understand the organisation’s financial position. They will be able to provide oversight and constructive input on budgeting, financial planning and the long-term sustainability of the charity.
A formal accountancy qualification would be welcome but is not essential. We would be equally pleased to hear from people with relevant practical experience through roles such as finance manager, accountant, bookkeeper, financial controller or similar.
The Treasurer should be able to present financial information clearly and accessibly to fellow trustees who may not have a financial background. An ability to explain financial matters in a straightforward way and contribute to balanced board discussions is particularly valuable.
We are looking for someone who is supportive, collaborative and interested in the wider work of the organisation. Trustees work closely together to guide the charity’s development, so a willingness to contribute to discussions about strategy, sustainability and the future direction of the Centre is important.
Previous experience as a trustee or charity volunteer is not required. We would welcome enquiries from people considering their first trustee role as well as those who have previous board experience.
