Financial Director

A privately owned £30m turnover business based in Wakefield, supplying into the construction sector, is looking to appoint a Finance Director. This is a hands-on FD role, working closely with the owners and senior management team to provide both strong financial leadership and commercial input. The successful candidate will be comfortable getting into the detail while also taking a strategic view of the business and helping shape its future direction.

Key responsibilities:

Take overall responsibility for the finance function, ensuring strong financial control and reporting. Provide commercial insight to support business performance, profitability and growth. Work closely with the owners and senior management team on strategic decision-making. Drive improvements across finance processes, systems and reporting. Support the business in identifying and implementing AI initiatives and new technology to improve efficiency and decision-making. Provide robust cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.

Challenge and support the wider business, using financial information to improve performance. Maintain a hands-on approach while developing the finance function as the business continues to grow. The ideal candidate:
Qualified accountant with proven experience at FD level. A hands-on, commercially minded finance leader who enjoys being close to the operation. Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to work effectively with business owners.

Experience with in a business supplying into the construction sector would be advantageous. Alternatively, experience within logistics, distribution or a related operational environment would be relevant. Comfortable embracing new technology and supporting the introduction of AI across the business. A confident communicator who can influence decision-making and operate as a key member of the senior management team.
