Peer Support Worker - Apprenticeship

This is an exciting opportunity for two part time peer support workers to join the All-Age Forensic Community Service. The service is based in Wakefield, covering the wider Yorkshire region. The post will support the candidate to complete the Level 3 Peer Worker Apprenticeship Programme. The candidate will be supported in the role by the trust lived experience lead and be connected to the wider trust peer support network.

The posts will be 9-5 Monday to Friday.

The two services available are:

  • Forensic Outreach and Liaison Service for Learning Disability and/or Autism (FOLS LDA). FOLS service provision is 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday.
  • Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT). SCFT service provision is 8am-8pm Monday to Friday and 9am-5pm at weekends.

The team offers support to service users who experience complex mental health difficulties, Learning Disability, Autism and/or neurodiverse needs in the community and present with some aspect of Forensic Risk. They work in partnership with other agencies, including supporting Hospital and Prison transfers into the community.

The PSW will bring their own lived experience to work alongside the Team and support service users in their recovery. Experience of mental health, learning disability, forensic and/or substance use services would be beneficial.

Main duties of the job

The Peer Support worker will work alongside the wider multidisciplinary Team in delivering high quality care and support to service users in the community. This will include:

  • Providing support and guidance to service users
  • Share lived experience and promote the service user voice
  • Support identified interventions individual and group
  • Be a positive role model, help inspire and motivate service users in their recovery
  • Practical and emotional support to service users
  • Help to reduce challenges and fears for service users
  • Promote recovery and positive futures
  • Bring your personal experience and knowledge into the Team
  • Support service development, involvement and collaboration
  • Attend allocated meetings
  • Access supervision and support from the peer support network, adopt a reflective approach
  • Complete identified studies relating to the peer support worker role
  • Report to the clinical team and line manager.

Job responsibilities

SERVICE PROVISION

To provide rehabilitation and recovery-based services that enable people to define, build and live a meaningful, independent and satisfying life.

The role of the Peer Support Worker is to deliver specific components of prescribed care packages under the direct supervision of Care Coordinators and Clinical Leads. The post holder will provide formalised support and assistance to service users in order for them to take control over their own lives and engage actively in their unique recovery process.
