The Role

The Mid-Yorkshire Teaching NHS trust is delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist to join our friendly, supportive, and driven team. Our busy cardiac service enjoys a strong reputation for commitment to the very highest standards of care, covering a wide range of invasive and non‑invasive investigations. The Echocardiography team provides a service for patients across our 4 sites (Dewsbury, Pinderfields, Pontefract and the Community Diagnostic Hub).

The team delivers adult TTE, Stress Echo (ESE, DSE, bicycle ergometer), Contrast and Bubble echo, TOEs and is currently working towards the implementation of physiologist‑led valve clinic and stress echo service. The Cardiac Rhythm Management team provides a service for patients across our 4 sites (Dewsbury, Pinderfields, Pontefract and the Community Diagnostic Hub). The team delivers both implant and follow‑up of a range of devices, including bradycardia pacing, CSP pacing, CRT, ICD, SICD and CRTD.

The care is complimented by the remote monitoring service. We also offer a cardiac physiologist‑led ILR service and you will also be able to participate in the on‑call rota. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, motivated and committed to developing their practical expertise and knowledge. Continuous professional development is a cornerstone of the team, where you will be encouraged and supported to achieve your full potential.

In addition to your professional development, you will participate in regular audits and provide valuable insights to contribute towards service development. You will have proven competency in adult echocardiography and/or cardiac rhythm management and will preferably hold BHRS / IBHRE (or IBHRE / EHRA) accreditation or BSE accreditation. Applicants working toward completion of the BSE/BHRS logbooks may be considered for the post at Band 6 to progress to Band 7.

Banding of successful applicant(s) will start at Band 6 until the necessary threshold of skills, experience and professional accreditation is achieved for progression to Band 7.

Main duties
  • Acts in accordance with the Professional Code of Conduct
  • Maintains a safe working environment
  • Works as a specialist practitioner within established trust and departmental policies
  • Acts as a source of expertise within their designated area
  • Undertakes clinical procedures where dexterity and accuracy are required and performs a broad range of highly specialist and complex investigations providing accurate factual reports following analysis and interpretation of physiological data
  • Routinely undertakes assessment of both in‑patients and out‑patients prior to a range of cardio‑respiratory investigations and uses own discretion to ensure the patient is suitable for the investigation
  • Supervises and assesses the work of others within the designated team
  • Works within and toward national guidelines and directives, e.g. NICE, NSF
  • Reports clinical incidents and adverse events to the Service Manager and external agencies as required
  • Provides clinical leadership and acts as a role model to the designated clinical physiology team by delivering high quality care as an expert practitioner, giving lead specialist advice as required
  • Applies and uses technology consistent with evidence of good practice
  • Prepares and maintains specialist equipment, ensuring overall functionality and comparing overall performance with standardisations
  • Participates in clinical research trials as directed by lead physician
Essential Requirements
  • Current RCCP/AHCS registration
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Professional accreditation appropriate to role (BSE / BHRS) or working towards for B2 progression to B7 consideration
