The Role
We are seeking a qualified Advanced Radiographer Practitioner with a scope of reporting practice to include MSK, chest and abdominal plain film reporting to join our team of well-established advanced practitioners. The radiographer reporting service at the Trust supports an immediate 12 hours, 7-day service and scope of practice includes all referral groups. The successful applicant would be expected to contribute to this pattern of work.
The service operates across all three hospital sites (Dewsbury, Pinderfields and Pontefract), and at the new Community Diagnostic Centre based in Wakefield, offering a number of diagnostic imaging investigations closer to home.
The posts current job plan comprises 70% reporting and 30% advanced practice duties to cover the other domains of advanced practice. The successful applicant will have high clinical and reporting standards in MSK and visceral imaging, strong leadership qualities, be actively involved in teaching and education of others and will be aware and accept the challenges of delivering a high quality service during a period of significant change within the NHS.
The Consultant Radiographers and fellow Advanced Radiographer Practitioners will provide support in professional and clinical issues. There is a strong team ethos with professionals working closely together to develop effective patient pathways, improve service delivery and optimise patient experience.
Excellent interpersonal and teaching skills are required with the ability to communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary teams. The Advanced Radiographer Practitioners undertake the delivery of tutorials within the Trust, are proactive in QA issues and take a leading role in the delivery of audits and service evaluation projects. They are required to provide clinical leadership and support for the diagnostic radiographers.
MainDuties
To work as an autonomous practitioner within the multidisciplinary team, undertaking high quality radiography, interpreting MSK, chest and abdominal images and inputting into the further management of patients.
Based on a specific base site, but maintaining a rotation across the other Trust sites, the advanced practitioner will work with the consultant radiographer to provide leadership in general radiography and be responsible for his/her clinical work and professional development.
A 7 day reporting service is already in operation at the MY trust and the post holder will be expected to contribute to the running of this service.
They will support service developments, the advancement of staff and skills and undertake reflective, evaluation of practice.
Key Responsibilities Professional- To use advanced clinical judgement to enable independent decision-making.
- To perform a comprehensive range of radiographic procedures.
- To independently interpret radiographs in order to establish a diagnosis, influencing patient management and treatment.
- To determine the need for additional examinations based on clinical presentation and image appearances.
- To take responsibility for the discharge home of patients following immediate interpretation of their radiographic examination.
- To refer patient to other specialities for appropriate treatment or further assessment in accordance with the appropriate care pathway.
- Initiate and lead audit projects in order to develop and enhance the service.
- To contribute to the development of evidence based practice and the development of local protocols.
- To work with the multi-disciplinary team to further develop care pathways to improve patient care.

- To prioritise the workload of patients with acute illness or injury.

- To supervise radiographic staff and student radiographers.
- To assist in the delivery of quality assurance programmes.
- To communicate verbally and in writing the final clinical reports on radiography examinations to referring clinicians.
- To communicate verbally the results of examinations to patient and their carers of varying abilities and understanding.
- To provide patients with advice on the management and treatment of soft tissue injuries in accordance with the appropriate care pathway.
