Job Description & How to Apply Below

Wakefield: famous for sculpture, art, and culture. Home to funky food festivals, historic castles, and rugby league pride, and a rich industrial heritage rooted in coal, iron, and farming. We’ve got incredible stories to tell and vibrant communities to celebrate.

We’re looking for a Web and Digital Communications Officer to make sure these stories are seen – using our website channels to inform, inspire and reflect the vibrant communities we serve.

Love a well‑organised website? Get a thrill from accessibility done right, clear standards and web pages that actually work for users? Then you might be just the person we’re looking for.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for a Web and Digital Communications Officer to join our award‑winning team. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys bringing order to the digital world and helping do websites properly – with users, accessibility and best practice always front of mind.

You’ll be one of our go‑to experts for website best practice, making sure our websites are consistent, compliant, accessible, and easy to use. From advising on WCAG accessibility standards and content quality, to setting clear processes and guidance, you’ll help keep our website platforms in great shape.

You won’t be doing this alone. You’ll work with teams across the Council, supporting colleagues to publish content confidently and correctly, and helping them understand the “why” behind our Website Content Playbook. You’ll also keep an eye on performance using analytics, user insight and research, spotting opportunities to improve and make things even better.

Above all, you’ll be someone who enjoys sharing knowledge, solving problems, and helping others get things right – without the jargon.

What we’re offering

We are committed to a great work life balance and have a strong focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion. You’ll receive a generous annual leave entitlement, alongside a range of other employee benefits like public transport and gym memberships discounts. We offer competitive pay, great benefits, and a work environment that fosters collaboration and growth.

If you’re a confident, collaborative digital communicator with experience delivering accessible, user‑centred website content, we’d love to hear from you.
