Infrastructure Team Lead (Contract)
Wakefield (Hybrid - 1-2 days on-site)
Band 8a equivalent: £294.03 - £337.36 per day (Inside IR35)
6 months initial - potential extension
OverviewWe are supporting a large NHS organisation to appoint an experienced Infrastructure Team Lead on a contract basis.
This is a hands‑on leadership role, combining line management responsibility with technical oversight of enterprise infrastructure. You'll lead a team delivering reliable, high‑performing IT services that support critical 24/7 operations.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage a team of infrastructure Engineers and Specialists
- Oversee the day‑to‑day delivery of infrastructure services (networks, servers, core platforms)
- Ensure the stability, availability, and performance of enterprise environments
- Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues and major incidents
- Plan and prioritise team workloads across BAU and project activity
Support delivery of the infrastructure roadmap and wider IT strategy - Work closely with internal stakeholders, NHS partners, and suppliers
- Drive continuous improvement and service optimisation
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and development for team members
- Contribute to security best practice and compliance (beneficial but not core focus)
- Participate in an on‑call / out‑of‑hours rota as required
- Proven experience in a Team Lead / Line Manager position within IT infrastructure
- Beneficial to have:
- Network infrastructure (WAN/LAN, routing, switching)
- Microsoft environments (Active Directory, servers)
- Infrastructure monitoring and performance tools
- Experience delivering services in complex, operational environments (NHS/public sector desirable)
- Ability to balance hands‑on technical work with people leadership
- Strong incident management and problem‑solving capability
- Understanding of cyber security principles (firewalls, governance, etc.) - beneficial, not essential
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, able to translate technical concepts into business impact
- High-performing, well‑managed infrastructure team
- Stable, reliable, and resilient IT services
Effective handling of major incidents and escalations - Delivery of infrastructure improvements and change initiatives
- Ongoing enhancement of service quality and operational performance
- Lead a team supporting critical frontline services
- Strong blend of technical leadership and people management
