The Role

We are looking for a part time Ward Manager to join our nursing team on a permanent basis within the Division of Medicine for our Stroke Unit on Gate A2. This part time position oversees a thirty‑nine bedded unit, delivering high standards of care to patients specialising in stroke, and works closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care.

This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated nursing leader with a high level of clinical competence. You will lead and execute delivery of excellent clinical standard, driving a culture of patient safety, clinical effectiveness and continuous improvement. You must be a positive role model, able to lead by example. Communication skills must be excellent with a strong commitment to ensuring a positive experience for patients and relatives/carers.

Main

duties Clinical
  • Develop a high level of clinical decision making, monitor and improve standards of care, working within your advanced scope of professional practice.
  • Lead clinical care by managing a patient caseload, providing expert assessment, planning and evaluation.
  • Contribute towards a multi‑professional approach in the management of patients within the specialist area, especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
  • Support patients and their families and ensure that they receive the required information to enable them to self‑manage, lead or participate in their care delivery.
  • Support, assist and encourage the multi‑disciplinary team in resolving patient problems, by the provision of new and innovative models of case management.
  • Work with the Matron to promote the development of nurses undertaking the CNO ‘Ten Key Roles’, such as Nurse Prescribing.
Leadership
  • Be an innovative, enthusiastic role model providing leadership, guidance and advice to staff on operational and professional issues, promoting an open, honest and transparent culture.
  • Identify, develop and sustain mechanisms to support patient involvement and feedback.
  • Be a resource for health care professionals by being visible, available and accessible for support and advice in relation to the management of patients in the speciality.
Qualifications Essential person specification requirements
  • Registered Nurse / Midwife/ BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
  • Your professional knowledge acquired at degree level will be supplemented by specialist training, experience and short courses to Masters level equivalent.
  • Recognised Teaching Qualification
Experience
  • Extensive experience of working autonomously within the specialist area at an advanced level delivering effective patient focused care.
  • Extensive clinical experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Proven experience of management/leadership skills and managing staff.
  • Experience of audit, research and evidence based care.
