Position Overview

Registered Nurses (RN) at Recovery Centers of America render professional nursing care to patients with behavioral healthcare needs and perform total patient care assigned, including administering prescribed medications. The RN works with clinical and case management staff to coordinate care and assist with treatment plans, maintains patients’ medical records on nursing observations, and may assist physicians during treatment and examination of patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
  • Plan and provide nursing care for patients, making nursing diagnoses and recommending treatment options.
  • Consult with medical, clinical, and other behavioral healthcare staff in designing appropriate treatment plans for clients.
  • Administer and monitor reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications.
  • Arrange further medical attention when necessary.
  • Assist clients in understanding the nature of mental health disorders, addiction, and the need for treatment.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
  • Test vital signs of pain and ensure pain treatment.
  • Document all patient information on medical charts and follow physicians’ written orders.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and accurate records of treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results.
  • Provide courteous, high‑quality service to patients and their loved ones, responding to requests and making referrals in a timely manner.
  • Uphold personal and professional ethics and values, aligning with the culture and beliefs of patients.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, create accurate reports, deliver presentations, and share information with others.
  • Identify problems, involve others in seeking solutions, conduct appropriate analysis, and search for best solutions.
  • Act consistently with available facts, constraints, and anticipated consequences.
  • Collaborate with other health professionals and leaders from other disciplines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred).
  • Up‑to‑date and active registered nursing license in the state where care is delivered.
  • Current BLS certification (preferred) or completion during orientation.
  • Two years of experience in behavioral healthcare or addiction services; five years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of healthcare, detoxification, addiction, co‑occurring disorders, and DSM criteria.
  • Competency in screening/assessing for suicide ideation and aggression.
  • Ability to safely administer medications.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; proficiency with facility proprietary systems preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, non‑verbal, and written communication skills; effective information exchange with patients, families, physicians, and professional associates.
  • Patient‑centered care approach: age‑appropriate assessment, evaluation, and management.
Work Environment

This role operates in a professional environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level is usually moderate. Registered nurses are expected to remain prepared for long hours, including weekends, holidays, and night shifts, working closely with patients.

Physical Demands
  • Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. intermittently; lifting up to 45 lbs. intermittently; repeated bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and use of arms and hands.
  • Prolonged walking (up to 4 hours/day) and standing (up to 4 hours/day); sitting (up to 2 hours/day).
  • Vision and hearing requirements: correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other; near vision correctable to read newsprint at 13‑16 inches; ability to hear and understand the spoken voice from a distance of 8 feet.
  • Ability to administer at least 2 consecutive minutes of quality CPR.
  • Emotional and mental stability; ability to perform essential functions and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, with some out‑of‑area and overnight travel possible.
