Join to apply for the Revenue Auditor 2 (in-training) role at the Department of Revenue's Audit Division. This opportunity involves autonomous work within a collaborative team, analyzing data, and making impactful decisions to support state services.
Responsibilities- Travel within a designated region to meet with businesses, observe operations, evaluate accounting records, and educate on tax laws and compliance.
- Conduct audits, research nexus to Washington sales, determine tax compliance, and prepare audits using Excel.
- Work independently and as part of a team, handling large and complex audits as needed.
- Assist in team audits to expose you to a range of industries (manufacturing, financial institutions, contractors, healthcare, retail, technology, telecommunications, airlines, transportation, and petroleum).
- In-training level is Revenue Auditor 1. A two-year training plan with new auditor training classes, training audits, and progression to professional level upon demonstrated knowledge.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles, ledgers, and journals; knowledge of GAAP.
- Experience with Excel functions and data analysis to organize, analyze, and summarize information.
- Analytical skills: ability to research, interpret, and apply federal and state tax laws to determine correct tax reporting.
- Planning and organization: ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Written and verbal communication: ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally.
- Adaptability and ability to work with autonomy and as part of a team.
- Preferred qualifications:
combination of experience or education such as a bachelor’s degree in accounting, 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours of accounting, and four or more years of accounting, auditing, tax compliance, or tax administration experience. - To be considered: complete the online application in detail, attach a resume and cover letter.
