Student Basic Needs Navigator position at the Walla Walla campus.

General DescriptionThe Basic Needs Navigator works as part of a team of Educational & Career Navigators who support student success by providing information and assistance with a variety of student supports. This position will provide a central point of contact for programs and services designed to address students' basic needs such as food, housing, health care, etc. The Basic Needs Navigator will also work to enhance collaborations with community partners and increase college resources which support low-income students.
EssentialFunctions Direct Student Support
- Establish positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Coordinate services that increase students' basic needs security and support academic persistence and success.
- Identify and assist with access to potential sources of funding and in-kind support to enhance students' opportunities to complete programs of study.
- Foster student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and effective use of resources.
- Serve as an advocate for students in their relationships with instructors, administrators, and college and community resource staff.
- Establish and maintain effective working partnerships with multiple stakeholders including funding sources, campus departments, community partner agencies, and prospective employers; work collaboratively and maintain regular communication in order to maintain and strengthen student support network and training pipeline.
- Develop opportunities for students to gain real-world information and exposure to targeted career pathways.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other college departments and community agencies for the purpose of enhancing student resources and support.
- Attend academic advising trainings, department and division meetings.
- Work collaboratively with Student Success Center colleagues and other College departments and/or programs to ensure students have access to supportive services including screening and referral to Workforce eligibility programs and other types of academic and non‑academic supports.
- Track and report student participation and progress in various eligibility program services.
- Coordinate with community agency partner staff to enhance student access to community resources and increase campus‑based services.
- Excellent communication skills across various educational and cultural levels while using written, electronic, and verbal methods.
- Excellent customer service and teamwork skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural competency; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the college, the community, industry, and media contacts.

- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to represent the College in a positive, professional manner.
- Ability to assume responsibility and deal effectively with problems; exercise good judgment when making decisions.
