The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC) seeks to engage our audiences in the appreciation of art, history, and culture of the Inland Northwest and beyond, through collection stewardship, exhibitions and programs that enrich and inspire. Established in 1916, the MAC is the oldest cultural organization in Spokane, Washington, and serves over 100,000 visitors each year from around the region.

The museum collections contain over 63,000 objects, including the largest known collection of Plateau tribes art and artifacts.

As a Museum Educator, you will create a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment that inspires curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity for visitors of all ages. You will facilitate inquiry‑based learning by encouraging exploration and experimentation through thoughtful questioning rather than providing answers, while supporting hands‑on engagement in the Brick By Brick:
Building Our City exhibition. Working alongside lead educators, you will learn and apply effective teaching strategies, support visitors in the galleries, deliver engaging interpretive tours, and provide guidance and instruction as needed. You will also help ensure exhibit spaces and equipment are properly maintained, contributing to a high‑quality and accessible museum experience for all.

Friday – Sunday | 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM | ON‑SITE

Duties

  • Deliver engaging interpretive tours to support a positive and meaningful visitor experience.
  • Support visitors in galleries and the Create Space by providing guidance, instruction, and assistance as needed.
  • Foster an engaging environment that encourages curiosity, innovation, and critical thinking.
  • Communicate interpretive concepts clearly and concisely in age‑appropriate ways that support family learning.
  • Ensure exhibits and equipment are used safely and maintained properly.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Ability to express interpretive concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to move or transfer up to thirty (30) pounds.
  • Demonstrated success in creating exceptional visitor experiences.
  • Passion for sharing the region’s stories with audiences of all ages, cultures, and learning preferences through a variety of media (printed, electronic, visual, etc.).
  • Ability to take action to learn and grow, including adapting to change, identifying and implementing solutions, navigating systems and tools, practicing self‑awareness, and taking responsibility for personal development.
  • Ability to take action to meet the needs of others, including asking questions to understand needs, collaborating to solve problems, building partnerships, advocating for inclusion, and adapting communication to diverse individuals and communities.

Preferred Qualification

  • Pursuing Degree in Game Design, History, Education, Teaching, History, Art, Theater or Museum Studies.
  • Understanding of inter‑generational & individual learning styles, cultural dynamics, and AAM best practices.
  • Working knowledge of AAM standards of interpretation and Visual Thinking Strategies interpretive techniques.
