Position Overview and DutiesEngineering and Construction Division;
Design Branch;
General Engineering Section. The Walla Walla District US Army Corps of Engineers helps manage local water resources for navigation, flood damage reduction, disaster assistance, hydroelectric power generation, and other natural and heritage areas.
- Independently plan, organize, direct and review the work of engineers and technicians in the preparation of Architect/Engineer (AE) contract task orders and contract specifications for civil/military works construction projects pertaining to the operation of hydroelectric dams.
- Develop Independent Government Estimates (IGE) for Architectural and Engineering services and coordinate with Contracting Officers to negotiate AE contractors for a final scope, schedule, and cost.
- Prepare detailed plans and specifications; conduct planning studies and preliminary investigations.
- Perform a broad range of engineering evaluations and assessments of AE products including technical reports, technical reviews, surveying and mapping, model studies, hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, cost engineering, and other engineering services.
- Edit and integrate technical specification provisions prepared by others, coordinate and assemble them into a pre-final specification package for review, prepare complete architectural and engineering specs, and prepare final specs.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires a valid state Driver’s License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Includes a temporary duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

- Minimum Education Requirement for Engineer (General Engineer, Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or Electrical Engineer)
- Degree:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or a program that includes differential and integral calculus and advanced courses in at least five of the following areas: statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, nature and properties of materials, and other comparable engineering sciences. - Combination of Education and Experience
- College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnishes thorough knowledge of engineering sciences and practical application to one branch of engineering, demonstrated by professional registration (EI, EIT, or PE), a written test (FE exam), specified academic courses, or related curriculum with professional engineering experience.
- Basic Requirements for Architect (0808)
- Degree:
Bachelor’s degree in architecture or a related field with at least 60 semester hours of architecture coursework, including 30 semester hours in design and 6 semester hours in structural technology, materials and construction, and environmental control systems. - Combination of
Education and Experience:
College-level education with 1 year of experience in an architect’s office or equivalent, with 5 years required if no college courses.
GS-12 Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience in development of Architect-Engineer contracts or task orders for civil works projects or applying design knowledge to civil works projects with emphasis on developing and coordinating contract plans and specifications.

- Salary includes locality pay; range: $88,621 – $126,186.
