Design Branch;
Geospatial Section. The Walla Walla District US Army Corps of Engineers helps manage local water resources for navigation, flood damage reduction, disaster assistance, hydroelectric power generation, and other natural and heritage areas.
- Plan and perform on-site surveys including walking and carrying objects for prolonged periods over rough, uneven mountainous terrain and steep slopes.
- Plan and participate in full range of land surveying duties in connection with planning, design, and construction.
- Perform all office computations and direct survey layouts, hydrographic chart making, and topographic mapping for the District.
- Plan and prepare contract specifications and Government estimates.
- Plan and participate in the presentation or selection process leading up to contract award.
- Verify contractor survey techniques and project conditions for quality assurance.
- Review incoming field survey material for accuracy and compliance.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Conditions of Employment- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.

- Senior Land Surveyor, GS‑12, will be required to obtain or maintain Land Surveyor License within 12‑months of appointment/promotion.
- Must be able to personally carry land surveying equipment up and down steep embankments and over rough terrain in fair and inclement weather.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Education- Basic Requirement for Land Surveyor: Bachelor’s degree in land surveying or civil engineering with surveying option/emphasis. The civil engineering major must include at least 6 semester hours of surveying, 3 semester hours of land law, and 21 additional semester hours in surveying, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying, geodesy, route surveying, remote sensing, cartography, survey astronomy, land information systems, computer-aided mapping, aerial photo interpretation, or survey analysis and adjustments.
- Or registration as a land surveyor in a State, territory, or the District of Columbia obtained by written examination under conditions outlined in the National Council of Engineering Examiners (NCEE) Unified Model Law for Registration of Surveyors.
