Design Branch;
Electrical Design Section. The Walla Walla District US Army Corps of Engineers manages local water resources for navigation, flood damage reduction, disaster assistance, hydroelectric power generation, and other natural and heritage areas.
- Serve as a senior (GS‑12) or developmental senior (GS‑11) engineer, carrying out assignments independently using professional judgment in planning and initiating work techniques and approaches.
- Develop preliminary and final designs for electrical systems such as power distribution, lighting, control systems, fault and arc flash studies, feeder sizing, voltage drops, PLC logic, and service entrances.
- Independently design and program PLCs for industrial control systems.
- Work on projects including multipurpose hydroelectric dams, river navigation structures, fish bypass facilities, and rehabilitation and modernization of existing dams and hatcheries.
- Utilize AutoCAD Electrical, Revit or similar advanced modeling tools for contract plans and drawings.
- Complete arc flash studies for facilities ranging from simple building distribution to complex hydroelectric dams using software such as ETAP, SKM, or Easy Power.
- Review shop drawings and descriptive literature submitted by contractors for contract and design compliance.
- Perform calculations and computations to ensure contractor‑proposed material and equipment are suitable and adequate.
- Review detailed design, analysis, plans and specifications from the Electrical Design Section and A‑E contractors for equipment, fixtures, and systems.
- Prepare correspondence to the Construction Branch, explaining actions taken and comments, changes, and additions to shop drawings and literature.
- Perform related tasks such as preparation of correspondence and reports, assistance with specifications for special systems and equipment, and portions of estimates for fair costs and change‑order actions.
- Make field‑site inspections of existing equipment, construction in progress, and completed projects; create studies and/or provide electrical observations on operation, condition, and evaluation of systems.
- Appointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination via background investigation.
- Requires a valid state Driver's License for operating vehicles.
- Has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business‑travel requirement of 15% of the time.
- Must submit transcripts or proof of alternate Basic Requirements.

Education- Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program, or meets curriculum requirements of five areas of fundamental engineering science or physics. - Combination of education and experience with documented professional registration, FE exam, or related curriculum is acceptable.
- Minimum GS‑11 specialized experience: one year of electrical engineering design for installation of electrical equipment.
- Or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three years of progressively higher‑level graduate education.
- Combination of education and experience may qualify if calculated percentage requirements are ≥ 100%.
- Minimum GS‑12 specialized experience: one year of power engineering (analysis and design).
