Overview
Our Maintenance and Operations Division is looking to add an experienced Boiler Operator (Stationary Engineer 2) to join our team of dedicated professionals at Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center in Shoreline, WA. The role focuses on ensuring the safe, efficient operation of high‑pressure steam and HVAC systems for the safety and comfort of residents and staff.
Responsibilities- Operate, monitor, and repair two high‑pressure steam boilers (natural gas with diesel backup) and associated auxiliary systems (feedwater pumps, condensate pumps, deaerators, air compressors, fuel oil pumps, chemical treatment pumps, etc.).
- Inspect, monitor, and repair internal mechanical heating rooms and crop steam infrastructure across a 68‑acre campus.
- Troubleshoot and make major and minor adjustments to boiler and HVAC equipment, including DOAS, Citygate, and Samsung VRF systems.
- Interpret schematics, drawings, and manuals for equipment operation and upgrades.
- Operate and adjust combustion management systems such as Cleaver‑Brooks HAWK, Allen Bradley, Fireye, Metasys, and similar platforms.
- Perform boiler room safety tests, chemical treatment, cleaning of boiler water, condensate, and lubrication of mechanical room equipment.
- Conduct blow‑down operations as required for safety.
- Respond to after‑hours and weekend incidents as the on‑site maintenance expert, evaluating situations and providing updates to the Facilities Manager or designee.
- Comfortable working from ladders or elevated platforms in high‑temperature environments.
- Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Ability to work respectfully and sensitively with individuals with limited sensory/physical abilities and diverse staff.
- Ready to respond to emergent facility maintenance issues after hours.
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of stationary (or marine) high‑pressure boilers and heating systems.
- Or:
Certificate of completion of an advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college, plus two years of experience in the same area. - Or:
One year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1. - Or:
Approved HVAC journeyman license, completion of an approved apprentice program, or four years of work with an HVAC company in the repair, maintenance, and preventative maintenance of a variable refrigerant flow system and a dedicated outside air system.
