Description

The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) seeks a full‑time Paralegal 3 for its Regional Services Division (RSD) in Vancouver. The position is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) and is permanent.

Duties & Essential Functions

The role supports attorneys in the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), drafting petitions to terminate parental rights, preparing guardianship petitions, negotiating settlements, and conducting trial preparation. The incumbent supervises three paralegals in the Vancouver RSD office, participates on the office management team, and trains new paralegals in juvenile court practice and procedures. The position also provides feedback and assists with the development and implementation of new office processes and procedures.

Qualifications

Required experience and education:

  • Six (6) years of legal experience, or
  • Paralegal certification (or two‑year paralegal degree, or nine‑month paralegal/post‑BA certification), and/or
  • Paraprofessional experience supporting an attorney, or
  • Two years as a Paralegal 2 in Washington State Service, or
  • Paraprofessional experience through previous Paralegal or Legal Assistant work.

Examples of acceptable paraprofessional experience include:

  • Preparing legal pleadings and legal correspondence
  • Ensuring timely and proper service of legal documents
  • Calculating, verifying, and calendaring critical events and dates
  • Managing case files and exhibits
  • Tracking and organizing discovery documents
  • Researching legal issues and verifying citations and references for accuracy
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of Court Rules and local procedure
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of DCYF and/or termination of parental rights matters and guardian ships
  • Proficiency with Law Manager and/or File Vine
