Job Overview

Recruiting for a permanent, full‑time Paralegal 2 position in the Torts Division. Salary range $61,644 – $82,872, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, retirement, and more.

Responsibilities
  • Adept at court rule and statute interpretation and legal calendar calculations.
  • Provide critical analysis of legal documents to identify legal issues.
  • Independently conduct legal, medical, and other technical research using Westlaw, library resources, databases, and the internet on assigned multi‑issue tort claims with high dollar exposure. Prepare research reports.
  • Review, organize, and evaluate damage information and calculate damages (medical costs, wage loss, property damage) and maintain up‑to‑date damages.
  • Recommend strategic options to Assistant Attorneys General during claim and lawsuit investigation, based on available agency and claimant/plaintiff evidence.
  • Design, develop, and implement methods for gathering client records to support settlement or legal defense.
  • Compile, analyze, and/or present case and claim data for reporting to Division and AGO leadership, client agency representatives, Department of Enterprise Services liaisons, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Four years of experience through paralegal certification, a two‑year paralegal degree, or paralegal plus, and/or paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney.
  • Alternative qualifications include one year of experience as a Paralegal 1 in Washington State Service and related paraprofessional experience.
  • Experience in civil litigation preferred.
  • Strong legal research, analytical writing, problem‑solving, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
