Role Overview
All employees and volunteers of the Washington State Attorney General's Office serve a crucial role in protecting the state, its people, and resources. The LNI Division is a dynamic, diverse, inclusive, and collegial division with over 100 staff, all committed to providing excellent legal services.
Responsibilities
- Supervise 3‑5 attorneys on a high‑paced litigation caseload including motions, discovery, and proceedings before the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals, Office of Administrative Hearings, Superior Courts and the Washington Courts of Appeal.
- Lead and mentor team members, providing coaching, feedback, and support for professional development.
- Handle own caseload in Industrial Insurance and other programs, assign cases, balance workloads, review settlements, and approve authorized actions.
- Approve attorney travel, time‑keeping, leave, and support recruitment of attorneys and professional staff.
- Collaborate with the Olympia Management Team on performance evaluations, performance goal setting, process improvement and other projects.
- Provide backup to the Section Chief as needed.
Qualifications
- Licensed attorney in Washington, having graduated from an ABA‑accredited law school or completed the WSBA Rule 6 Law Clerk Program.
- Demonstrated teamwork, collaboration, and ability to create a positive work environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Leadership experience and proactive, creative problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to manage an active caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet short deadlines.
- Experience working electronically, including remote or hybrid hearings and trial preparation.
- Commitment to the highest ethical standards, inclusivity, and collaborative work environment.
- High‑desirability: civil litigation experience, independent advisory experience, efficient team resource management, and capacity to manage multiple priorities under pressure.

- Transparent salary schedule – AAG salaries range from $86,328 to $161,700 in accordance with Appendix B of the AWAAG CBA.
Appointment and Compensation
Salary: $86,328 – $161,700. Additional benefits are detailed in the AWAAG CBA and the MAAG1 salary schedule.
