DSHS CSTC – Registered Nurse 2

Location: Lakewood, WA.
Position Type: Part‑time or Full‑time.
Start Date: ASAP.

Overview

Join our multidisciplinary team at the Child Study and Treatment Center (CSTC) to provide compassionate, evidence‑based nursing care for children and adolescents with mental health needs.

Position Details
  • Part‑time Float RN2: 32 hrs/week, Thursday 6:30 AM‑3:00 PM;
    Friday‑Saturday 7:30 AM‑8:00 PM.
  • Full‑time RN2: 40 hrs/week, Tuesday‑Saturday 2:30 PM‑11:00 PM.
  • Possible shift‑charge responsibilities when the Psychiatric Child Care Counselor 2 is absent.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care: monitor vital signs, administer medications and vaccinations, implement physician orders.
  • Conduct nursing assessments, develop treatment plans, and monitor patient progress.
  • Deliver age‑appropriate biopsychosocial care; lead or co‑lead therapeutic, educational, and recreational group activities.
  • Ensure patient safety: monitor behavior, intervene to prevent escalation or harm, adhere to CSTC policies.
  • Educate and advocate for patients and families regarding medications, treatment plans, and patient rights.
  • Collaborate in interdisciplinary treatment planning; participate in team meetings, quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide leadership to PCCCs, ancillary staff, new employees, and trainees; model professionalism.
  • Serve as shift lead: assign duties, manage staffing levels, and ensure smooth communication between shifts.
Qualifications
  • Graduated from an accredited nursing program and at least one year of professional nursing experience, or equivalent education and experience totaling five or more years.
  • Application of nursing principles, critical thinking, and professional judgment to provide safe, effective patient care.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric nursing, mental health concepts, growth and development, and specialty treatment techniques.

    Clear communication skills; able to give verbal and written directions; proficient over the phone.
  • Collaborative teamwork with patients, families, healthcare staff, and community contacts.
  • Physical fitness, strength, and dexterity to supervise patients and participate in leisure activities.
  • Understanding of interpersonal dynamics and therapeutic communication strategies.
