Overview
Our Maintenance and Operations Division at Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center in Shoreline, WA is hiring an experienced Boiler Operator (Stationary Engineer
2). This role focuses on operating and maintaining high‑pressure steam boilers, HVAC systems, and related auxiliary equipment to ensure a safe, comfortable environment for residents and staff.
- Ensure safe, efficient operation and maintenance of a high‑pressure steam plant with two high‑pressure steam boilers (natural gas with #2 diesel backup).
- Operate, monitor, and repair gauges, valves, metering pumps, boilers, electronic controls, and safety equipment for continuous operation.
- Work with auxiliary systems such as feedwater pumps, condensate pumps, deaerators, air compressors, fuel oil pumps, chemical treatment pumps, pneumatic tools, and emergency generator.
- Inspect, monitor, and repair internal mechanical heating rooms in individual buildings.
- Repair steam infrastructure across a 68‑acre campus.
- Assist with HVAC work, including DOAS systems and Citygate/Samsung VRF systems.
- Troubleshoot and make major and minor adjustments to boiler and HVAC equipment.
- Interpret schematics, drawings, and manuals for equipment operation and upgrades.
- Operate and adjust combustion management systems such as Cleaver‑Brooks HAWK, Allen Bradley, Fireye, and Metasys.
- Test boiler room equipment for safety, perform chemical treatment and cleaning of boiler water, condensate, and lubricate mechanical room equipment.
- Conduct blow‑down operations as needed for safe operation.
- Respond to after‑hours and weekend incidents as the on‑site maintenance expert, evaluating situations and providing updates to the Facilities Manager or designee.
- Comfortable working from ladders or elevated platforms in high‑temperature environments.
- Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Able to work respectfully and sensitively with individuals with limited sensory/physical abilities and diverse staff.
- Ready to respond to emergent facility maintenance issues after hours.
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of stationary (or marine) high‑pressure boilers and heating systems.
- Or certificate of completion of an advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college and two years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of stationary (or marine) high‑pressure boilers and heating systems.
- Or one year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1.
- Or an approved HVAC journeyman license, approved and complete apprentice program, or four years of work with an HVAC company in the repair, maintenance, and preventative maintenance of a variable refrigerant flow system and a dedicated outside air system.
