Job SummaryThe Middle School Track Coach is responsible for organizing, managing, and leading the school's track program. This role focuses on teaching fundamental skills, promoting physical conditioning, encouraging team unity, and instilling sportsmanship. The coach will develop training plans that address multiple events (sprints, and distance), while creating a positive and inclusive environment that supports the athletic and personal development of middle school students.
Responsibilities- Design age‑appropriate training sessions for various track & field events.
- Emphasize injury prevention, proper technique, and physical conditioning.
- Adjust training to accommodate different skill levels and abilities.
- Teach and reinforce proper mechanics for sprinting and distance running.
- Consistently model and promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and mutual respect, fostering a strong sense of self‑worth and belonging while upholding respect for opponents, officials, and spectators.
- Organize team entries on the slotted date for competitions and ensure athletes are prepared for events.
- Supervise athletes during travel and competitions, ensuring safety and appropriate behavior.
- Uphold academic eligibility standards and support the academic success of all team members.
- Support player development by ensuring every athlete has an opportunity to play in every game.
- Attend all required district or school coaching meetings and training courses.
- Model professional behavior, integrity, and ethical coaching standards at all times.
- Communicate clearly with parents and school officials regarding schedules, expectations, and updates.
- Previous coaching or competitive experience in track & field for middle school or club experience.
- Demonstrate knowledge of sprinting and distance running techniques, including proper lane assignments and effective relay hand‑off strategies.
- Ability to demonstrate leadership, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to demonstrate skills and drills to athletes.
- Demonstrates the ability to inspire/motivate confidence in student‑athletes by fostering positive emotions such as enthusiasm, joy, and excitement, which contribute to enhanced performance and overall team morale.
- Background check clearance required.
