Overview

Location:

Wallingford (Office) with travel to offshore project sites. Work Environment:
On-site onshore laboratory and offshore rotations.

Hours:

Full-time 37.5 hours per week onshore; offshore shifts operate in 12-hour rotations.

Are you excited by turning raw geological samples into meaningful insights that shape safer, more resilient infrastructure? As a Field and Core Logging Engineer at Fugro, you will help unlock Geo-data that supports renewable energy projects, transport networks, coastal protection and more. You will work onshore in the geotechnical laboratory and offshore on live site investigations, contributing to high-quality data collection for engineering teams and global clients.

You will report to Senior Core Logging Engineers onshore and support Lead Shift Engineers or Site Managers offshore, joining a collaborative team focused on curiosity, precision and continuous learning. If you enjoy hands-on technical work, varied environments and growing your geotechnical expertise, this is an ideal opportunity to advance your career.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality geotechnical data by processing, logging and testing soil and rock samples in line with Fugro procedures and relevant standards (e.g., BS5930, Eurocode 7, ISO).
  • Support offshore site investigations by performing in-situ testing, laboratory work and accurate data recording during shift-based operations.
  • Ensure all data — logged, tested, processed or interpreted — is complete, accurate and ready for integration into project deliverables.
  • Maintain high safety and quality standards, including compliance with QHSE procedures and RPE requirements where applicable.
  • Conduct core logging, basic geotechnical testing, thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity testing in both onshore and offshore settings.
  • Enter, process and validate data using spreadsheets and in-house software such as GeODin and GERRIT, including calculations and QA/QC checks.
  • Assist in equipment calibration, maintenance and inventory to ensure smooth operation of the logging facility and offshore lab.
  • Support training of team members and contribute to generation of project deliverables and reports.
  • Collaborate across teams including laboratory staff, project managers, QHSE teams and client representatives to meet project objectives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Civil Engineering, Geology or related discipline.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work confidently in a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
  • Foundation-level understanding of soil and rock logging principles, or willingness to build this knowledge through on-the-job training.
  • Willingness and physical ability to stand for extended periods (8–12 hours) and undertake offshore shift work.
  • Flexibility to travel offshore and to Fugro facilities as required, with support and training provided.
