Emmet County Conservation Board Seasonal Naturalist

Seasonal Naturalist position, 480 hours a year, for the Emmet County Conservation Board under the direct supervision of the Director and Naturalist. The seasonal naturalist will assist with informational programs provided for schools and teachers, youth and adult groups, service groups, the general public, community organizations and agencies and assist with staffing the Nature Center will also be required.

Position Details

Hourly rate of $15.68 per hour for up to 480 hours normally mid‑May until mid‑August. Hours will include Monday through Friday with some evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed. This seasonal Naturalist position will follow the Emmet County Personnel Policy.

Responsibilities

Assist the Full‑time Naturalist with all youth programming, environmental educational and interpretive programs for the public, special populations, and senior groups; staff the front desk of the Nature Center and reception area; assist with routine upkeep, cleaning, maintenance of the Nature Center and parks; perform daily office and park functions such as answering phones, photocopying, computer work, filing, office upkeep; perform light grounds keeping;

help maintain environmental educational materials, all living and non‑living displays and their equipment.

Requirements and Certifications

High school graduation or equivalent and a college degree preferred from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of general office procedures, good record‑keeping skills, and the ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with others. Ability to communicate orally and effectively to groups and individuals in both formal and informal settings. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds; possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving history;

able to pass a pre‑employment physical; ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed; CPR and AED certified. Must be 18+ years old.
