Hospital : One- Insight Departments

Overview

Get a real insight into life in a busy hospital. This one-week placement is a chance to go behind the scenes and explore how a hospital really works. You’ll rotate through different departments — not just clinical areas — to see how teams across the hospital support patient care every day.

You’ll spend time in areas such as:

• Catering – helping our kitchen teams prepare and deliver meals to patients
• Facilities and Portering – learning how we keep the hospital clean, safe and running smoothly
• Reception and Admin – supporting our front desks and office teams with day-to-day tasks
• Clinical observation – getting a glimpse of how healthcare teams work together (in appropriate non-sensitive areas)

This placement is a great way to explore different career paths, build confidence, and experience a real workplace. You’ll learn valuable skills in communication, organisation and teamwork – all while seeing the impact the NHS has every day.

Students aged 14–15 who live within a 30-minute commute of the hospital site.
