GSL Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to work within a SEMH provision in Wallsend, NE28
.
The provision supports children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
, including pupils who may display challenging behaviour or experience barriers to engaging successfully with education.
This role is ideal for someone who is patient, confident and passionate about making a positive difference. Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils will be a key part of the position.
The RoleAs a Learning Support Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils with SEMH needs within the classroom.
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support depending on individual pupil needs.
- Help pupils engage with lessons and overcome barriers to learning.
- Support pupils with their social and emotional development
. - Build positive and consistent relationships with young people.
- Use appropriate strategies to support pupils with challenging behaviour and emotional regulation
. - Encourage positive behaviour, independence and confidence.
- Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals.
- Help maintain a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
- Follow safeguarding, behaviour and wellbeing policies at all times.
We would particularly like to hear from candidates with experience in:
- SEMH or SEND settings.
- Alternative provisions or specialist schools.
- Behaviour support or mentoring.
- Youth work.
- Residential or children's care.
- Sports coaching or community-based work.
- Supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour.
You will need to be patient, resilient and confident
, with the ability to remain calm and professional when faced with challenging situations.
Relevant qualifications are desirable; however,
strong practical experience working with children or young people will also be considered
.
