ERM is hiring a Field Safety Observer in Rocklin, CA. This is a full‑time (40 hrs/week) limited‑term position for 3 months with the possibility of extension. The role focuses on ensuring contractor and project team compliance with safety regulations such as Cal/OSHA, providing on‑site safety support, conducting field safety observations, and coordinating corrective actions.
Base Pay Range: $38.79/hr – $46.83/hr.
Responsibilities- Manage receipt, review, and feedback for contractor safety documents (Programmatic Safety Plans, Project Specific Safety Plans, Job Safety Analyses, Field Safety Observations).
- Inspect site activities during kick‑off and implementation of medium and high‑risk scope activities.
- Perform Field Safety Observations at the frequency and level required by the SSSP/PSP.
- Provide on‑site occupational safety support to identify, prevent, and mitigate safety risks.
- Document and retain safety documents per client requirements.
- Take direction from client supervisors and management responsible for contractor safety.
- Lead or participate in safety incident investigations and root‑cause evaluations.
- Coordinate corrective actions with team members and communicate updates to prevent repeat occurrences.
- Share safety information in an impactful, constructive, and results‑oriented manner.
- Communicate safety trends and recommend corrective actions.
- Support compliance with applicable programs (respirator, hearing, ergonomics).
- Identify hazards and apply mitigation measures for high‑risk activities.
- Initiate and participate in safety kick‑off, periodic or daily safety meetings with contractors.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert on federal, state, and local safety laws and regulations.
- Deliver training to support communication of established processes and procedures.
- Use safety trend analysis to identify and implement innovative solutions for gaps.
- Minimum 3 years of electrical safety experience, preferably in construction or utilities.
- OSHA 30‑hour certification required.
- High School Diploma required.
- CHST, CSP, ASP, or similar safety certifications preferred.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and move in uneven terrain for extended periods; comfortable with variable weather.
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required.
- Ability to interpret federal and state OSHA regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The annual base pay for this role is in the $80,691–$97,410 range, equivalent to $38.79–$46.83 per hour. The position is limited‑term and non‑exempt, with potential bonus pay for full‑time employees. Benefits include paid time off, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life and disability insurance (
