Surgical Tech, Medical Assistant
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Operating Room Manager/Director of Nursing, and according to the organizational structure, performs surgical scrubbing at the direction of Registered Nurses. Assures proper care and maintenance of all surgical instrumentation and equipment while maintaining the sterile field. Demonstrates good knowledge of principles and practices of aseptic technique and infection control, and a comprehensive understanding of all equipment, instruments, procedures, and supplies utilized in the operating room.

Projects a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining patient, co‑worker, and surgery center confidentiality in adherence to HIPAA policy. Reports any known or suspected activity that violates laws, rules, regulations, or the Code of Conduct in good faith. Fulfills annual Health Stream continuing education requirements. Demonstrates self‑direction, accountability, professionalism, and receptiveness to change. Seeks guidance and assistance when needed. Performs well under stress, pausing whenever necessary to ensure patient safety and exceptional service.
Exhibits teamwork, willingness to assist others, and the readiness to undertake additional duties as requested. Prioritizes tasks, responds timely to issues requiring decisions, and consistently follows through to achieve desired results.
- Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an approved surgical technician program.
- CST certification preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience in the operating room in orthopaedics.
- Ability to achieve Basic Life Support certification within 60 days of hire.
- Ability to relate and work effectively with others.
- Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.
- Willingness to participate in goal‑setting and educational activities for own professional advancement.
- Is aware of surgical technician standards and performs in accordance with them.
