HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc. is a growing, California‑based employee‑owned environmental consulting firm seeking an experienced, highly motivated Biology Project Manager to join our team in Northern California (remote from the Bay Area). The role focuses on managing resources‑related projects and leading biological technical report and regulatory permit application preparation during environmental reviews.
Key Responsibilities- Manage regulatory permitting and biological resources‑related projects.
- Lead the preparation of regulatory permit applications and biological technical reports in accordance with agency requirements.
- Serve as the regulatory permitting and biological resources lead during environmental review by relevant jurisdictions and agencies.
- Provide resource agency consultation and permitting support.
- Coordinate with clients and prepare proposals, including business‑development activities.
- Develop solutions for project challenges, forge collaborative relationships, and build consensus among team members, clients, and agencies.
- Occasionally conduct biological fieldwork, though primary duties are not field‑work related.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental science, biology, or related field (degree in biochemistry or microbiology not acceptable).
- At least 5 years of experience in the environmental field carrying out biological resources or similar projects as a consultant or agency staff.
- At least 2 years of focused experience serving as project manager on multiple projects for a variety of clients; experience managing compliance programs or renewable energy projects alone is insufficient.
- Experience leading and assisting with business‑development and marketing efforts, including proposal preparation.
- Experience preparing biological technical reports and related CEQA reports.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Master’s degree or higher in biology, natural resources, or related field.
- Strong client and agency relationships.
- Experience leading or assisting with regulatory permitting in California with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Regional Water Quality Control Board.
- Experience managing multiple, concurrent, large‑scale biological, natural resource, or similar projects in California for both public and private sector clients.
- Experience preparing or managing biological resources technical studies in Northern California.
- Experience managing or preparing CEQA and NEPA documents.
Demonstrated experience in preparation of larger proposal efforts and participation in interviews.
- Starting salary range: $84,000 to $115,000 annually, based on qualifications.
