Cultural Resources Field Monitor
First Carbon Solutions (FCS) is hiring on‑call Archaeological, Paleontological, and Cultural Resources Field Monitors / Technicians (CG03/CG04) to assist with field surveys, inventories, site recording, excavations, and site condition assessments at various sites throughout California.
Base Pay Range$25.00/hr – $35.00/hr
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform field surveys, inventories, site recording, excavations, and site condition assessments.
- Identify cultural and paleontological materials while working with construction crews and around heavy equipment.
- Collect and maintain field data in an organized manner.
- Implement and adhere to established data collection, inventory, recording, and monitoring protocols.
- Assist in field report writing, and operate Trimble and GPS equipment.
- Demonstrate proper fieldwork protocols and techniques.
- Complete assignments in a timely fashion, often under strict deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and professionalism.
- Show keen attention to detail.
- Be self‑motivated and able to work independently with minimal guidance.
- Follow instructions and ask informed questions.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
- Excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, paleontology, or geology with a focus on paleontology.
- Minimum of 2+ years of archaeological field experience working with construction crews and around heavy equipment.
- Experience in desert and rural conditions, and direct experience identifying cultural and paleontological materials during construction.
- Ability to understand, implement, and adhere to established data collection, inventory, recording, and monitoring protocols.
- Capacity to collect and maintain field data in an organized manner that is easily understood and accessible to other resource staff.
- Understanding of federal and state laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines governing cultural resources.
- Experience working with various state and federal agencies and Native American tribes.
The position will be exposed to all weather conditions and terrain. It requires working outdoors and traveling to project sites.
Physical DemandsPhysical endurance to walk over a variety of terrains and in extreme weather, including heat, while carrying a heavy pack. Must stand, bend, and kneel for long periods, lift at least 20 lbs., and hike more than 5 miles per day.
