Overview
Consulting Senior Associate, Biologist (Entry Level) – Northern California. ERM is seeking an entry-level Biologist to provide desk-based biological expertise to large-scale utility projects in northern California. The position is negotiable in location but ideally based in northern California and involves supporting Vegetation Management operations and maintenance activities for a large California utility. This is primarily a desk-based role with opportunities for fieldwork, within ERM’s Impact Assessment & Planning (IAP) service.
Responsibilities- Develop Biological Resource Assessments.
- Support preparation of CEQA and NEPA documents, ESA Biological Assessments, CDFW 1602 permits, and related duties.
- Mentor early-career scientists and provide technical QA/QC for deliverables.
- Prepare proposals, including scope development and cost estimates; participate in business development with existing clients.
- Adhere to scope, budget, and schedule; ensure quality standards and timely delivery of reports.
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to ensure regulatory compliance and permitting requirements.
- Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees.
- Other assigned duties as required, including project coordination and deputy project management.
- BS in Biological Sciences or related field;
Master’s degree is desirable but not required. - Minimum of 2 years in environmental consulting/experience with biota in Northern California; prior experience in the power sector is an asset.
- Expertise with federal and state regulations including California Coastal Act, CESA, ESA, and CEQA; environmental assessments.
- Technical competency in environmental permitting and technical writing/analysis skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills (written and oral).
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment; self-starter with collaborative work ethic.
- Strong commitment to safety and following health and safety protocols.
For the Consulting Senior Associate, Biologist (Entry Level) position, the anticipated annual base pay is $68,640 – $70,725 (USD). Pay within this range depends on factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, location, performance, travel requirements, and business needs. Some instances may fall outside this range. Bonus eligibility may apply for some roles.
