Mainduties of the job
- Answer the telephone promptly and deal with enquiries in a helpful and courteous manner, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Cover the front reception desk and deal with patients face‑to‑face.
- Book, cancel, and amend patient appointments using EMIS.
- Have an overview of the demands and workflow of the practice during the working day.
- Maintain a good rapport with internal and external staff.
- Keep the waiting area / reception front desk tidy and ensure forms and patient information are stocked up where possible.
- Effectively signpost patients to appropriate services.
- Process and request repeat prescriptions through EMIS.
- Liaise with clinicians for patient queries.
- Work in a team of receptionists to cover duties.
- Scanning & filing post.
- Patient registrations.
- Flexible to cover reception or admin.
- Hours will be 24.5 per week:
- Monday: 08:00am – 02:00pm
- Tuesday: 09:00am – 01:00pm
- Thursday: 08:00 – 01:00pm
- Friday: 08:00am – 06:00pm (30-minute break)

We are housed within an excellent modern purpose‑built Health Centre in Aldridge. Our practice has been rated as 'Good' by CQC and we take pride in delivering quality care to our valued patients. - Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
- The ability to exercise judgement when dealing with patient enquiries/problems.
- Knowledge of EMIS web clinical system or another similar clinical system.
- Ability to manage own workload and act independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sensitivity and empathy with people from different backgrounds.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- The ability to work to a professional standard.
- Previous receptionist/administration experience in a similar setting and ideally general practice.
- Knowledge of Emis web clinical or another similar clinical system.
