Dr Mahbub's Surgery, Brace Street Health Centre, is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, committed and caring Salaried GP to join our busy but friendly, single‑handed Practice. We are looking for an experienced GP to work 2 sessions per week (Tues AM & Wed AM), working closely alongside our GP Partner. Salary is £10k including employer pension and NI contributions.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work with our whole team to deliver the highest quality primary care services. More specifically, the Salaried GP will be responsible for assessing patients, working with our multidisciplinary team undertaking the clinical duties and responsibilities associated with working as a General Practitioner in line with GMC and RCGP standards.

About us

Dr Mahbub's surgery is based at Brace Street Health Centre (63 Brace Street, Walsall WS1 3PS
), which is a purpose‑built building with on‑site parking, providing primary care for Caldmore and surrounding areas serving approximately 3,400 patients.

We are a single‑handed GP Practice lead by Dr Mahbub. We have two further locum GPs, one Practice Nurse and one Locum ANP, supported by a team of admin/reception staff.

Job responsibilities

Main Purpose of Job:

To support the GP Partner in the Practice to manage a busy, interesting clinical caseload. The appointee will also have the opportunity to take part in leading on key disease areas (monitoring trends in treatment, staff training and prescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for a diverse suburban patient list; including Directed Enhanced Services commissioning, patient participation and health promotion.

Main tasks of job:

  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post‑holder will make himself/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, referrals and correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care workers within the Practice.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collecting data for audit purposes.
  • Compiling and issuing computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand‑written prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • Ensuring that all work carried out which carries a private fee is properly recouped and accounted for (e.g. Medical Reports, Insurance reports, Private letters to third Parties etc.).
  • In general, the post‑holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • Other responsibilities within the practice:

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  • A commitment to life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the Practice.
  • Contributing to the development of computer‑based patient records.
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and accurate coding of patient data.
  • Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
  • Mentor additional roles within the practice.
